Data center news is everywhere, right?

Suddenly and all at once. Wisconsin’s local media has been great in keeping up with data center coverage, but it’s largely a drumbeat — a new zoning petition, a community meeting, a protest, a rate increase case, a new proposal unveiled.

I started developing this beat while at a progressive radio network, where data center news was challenging to distill down. Updates on data centers across Wisconsin unfold every day. Data centers touch every part of our lives — our work, our communities, our land, our government, and our pocketbooks.

This newsletter attempts to do something a little different: round up the data center news across Wisconsin, and present the patterns that emerge. It started as a personal habit of aggregating developments. Then I figured, why not share it with you?

About the author

My name is Chali Pittman, and I’m a journalist based in Madison, Wisconsin. I grew up in parts across Wisconsin — Milwaukee, Footville, Windsor, Fort Atkinson — and am now based in Madison.

For roughly six years, I was the News & Talk Director at WORT, Madison’s beloved community radio station, which emphasizes local government reporting. I also worked briefly as the News Director at Civic Media, a commercial radio network.

I’m the daughter of a journalist and a librarian, and believe the only meaningful way forward for media is to honor community and authentic connection. I’ve been threatening to do something like this for years. So thanks for taking the leap with me.
